SRLJC Work Group

The Smart Justice Spokane’s Spokane Regional Law and Justice Council (SRLJC) Workgroup is made up of organizational representatives and individuals who participate on the SRLJC’s subcommittees. We work collaboratively on the subcommittees advocating for the implementation of our smart justice vision and policy recommendations.

The SRLJC Workgroup members assisted the SRLJC in developing the MacArthur Foundation’s Safety + Justice Challenge Grant application. Spokane County received a $150,000 planning grant through the MacArthur Foundation that is aimed at reducing the jail population, the length of time that people spend in jail, and racial disparities in the system. Spokane County submitted an implementation grant application to the MacArthur Foundation on January 6, 2016. If chosen, Spokane County will receive a multi-year funding grant for up to 2 million dollars per year to implement programs addressing these goals. It is important to note that out of the 20 communities chosen to submit applications, Spokane County has the highest racial and ethnic disparities.
